Kids With A Cause was one of the first charities to respond and lend a helping hand after the devastating tornado in Greensburg, Kansas. This terrible tragedy destroyed the entire town on May 4, 2007, and left a once quiet town in rubble. The residents had high hopes for the future and knew the re-building of their neighborhood would be a long and difficult process.
As the FEMA trailers moved in, so did Kids With A Cause. We organized a community luncheon (yes, under an enormous tent with no running water or electricity) for all of the families to reunite. It was the first time they were able to see each other, share stories of their losses and discuss their plans for the future.
While visiting with the children, Kids With A Cause helped them smile again and give them hope for a brighter tomorrow. We played games so all could win prizes that included new clothing, stuffed animals, books, toys and many other treasured items. Even with swarming mosquitos and humid weather, the musical performance that followed the luncheon had everyone smiling and dancing.
